September brings the grape harvest season | Photos
Well, September has come and gone, but let me tell you, September is our favorite month of the year.
In Greece, we call it “Trigitis,” meaning the month of the grape harvest!
All of our care and upkeep of the plants come to fruition in September, where we can finally appreciate all of those months of hard work. Throughout Greece, customs and traditions take place to show gratitude to the Earth for blessing us with its sweet fruit. Our personal favorite is the Blessing of the Grapes, which probably dates back thousands of years (although wayyy back then this would have been more like sacrificing a goat to the ancient god Dionysus).
We are grateful to have the absolute best team at Domaine Hatzimichalis, as every year, the harvest and pruning periods are performed by a group of skillful and experienced women. This was no accident, as Greek women are known for their caring, patient, and tender character, in addition to their overall courage and strength.
These women are who Domaine Hatzimichalis trusts in our tradition of hard work. Our founder, Dimitri, has always been amazed and inspired by their care for the vineyards, as it reminded him of how Greek mothers care for their children.
And while they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, the pictures from this year’s harvest season at Domaine Hatzimichalis are worth a thousand thanks to our hardworking team:
By the way, are you planning a trip to Greece yet? We would love to see you and show you around our vineyard 😉
